The Hospital ‘St. Panteleimon’ in Orhei was visited yesterday evening by the German Minister for Economic Cooperation and Development, Gerd Müller. The foreign official was accompanied by the Prime Minister, Iurie Leanca and the Minister of Regional Development and Construction, Marcel Răducan.

‘The visit of the German high official speaks about German support in regional development in the Republic of Moldova and regional developmental projects that are successfully implemented by RDAs from our country’, said the Minister of Regional Development and Construction, Marcel Răducan.

The visit was made ​​due to the fact that Orhei hospital has received funds for energy efficiency, provided through KfW and GIZ (German Development Cooperation through GIZ). The pilot project ‘Increasing energy efficiency in Orhei Regional Hospital’ was implemented by the Regional Development Agency Center (RDA Center) in November 2012 – December 2013 and the total amount of the project was MDL 6312.00 thousand.

Elena Palanciuc, head of Orhei hospital wanted to mention during the visit of officials that currently there are made re-planning works of perinatal department, which previously was renovated and insulated. 60% of the work on this building was made ​​via the German support through the German Development Cooperation through GIZ. Last year, following the thermal insulation of the building, there was saved over MDL 400 thousand.

Beginning with the middle of this year, the hospital also benefits of an amount exceeding half a million euros from the German Development Cooperation through GIZ for Energy efficiency.

Orhei Hospital has a capacity of 410 patient places and is currently one of the largest hospitals in the Republic of Moldova. The institution serves patients from neighbouring rayons such as Teleneşti, Rezina, Şoldăneşti or Criuleni.

This year it has been approved for implementation by the RDA Center a similar project to increase energy efficiency in Nisporeni. Thus, the Development Region Center continues to benefit from the support of international donors, whose contribution help raising living standards.

Promoting cooperation between the German Government and the Government of the Republic of Moldova began in 1994. Since then, there have been implemented a number of important development projects, which aimed to facilitate the transition from a planned economy to market economy.
