Members of Regional Sector Commission in the field of Water Supply and Sanitation (WSS RSC) from the Development Region Centre, created with the support of the German Development Cooperation through GIZ under the ‘Modernisation of Local Public Services in the Republic of Moldova’ (MLPS) project, met on 29 November, in a first meeting at Centre RDA. The event was, also, attended by representatives from the Ministry of Agriculture, Regional Development and Environment (MARDE), GIZ/MLPS and Centre RDA.

Members of WSS RSC elected Anatolie Dimitriu as co-chair of the Commission. He is the president of Ialoveni Rayon Council. The co-chair from MARDE is Nadejda Chilaru, Head of Division on water resources integrated management.

Ala Bragoi, Head of Section on strategic planning and programming expressed the belief that active involvement in decision making to the benefit of the region will define the good and efficient work of the new Commission. Petru Veverita, GIZ national senior advisor reconfirmed GIZ openness in providing the Commission with necessary support throughout the whole process.

Members of WSS RSC got acquainted with the national policy in WSS sector, as well as with the Regional Development Strategy for Centre Region 2016-2020 and Regional Operational Plan for Centre Region concerning WSS sector.  Also, the Regional Sector Programme in WSS and provisions of mentioned documents for the given sector were presented.

In this context, Members of the Commission were informed on the current situation in the field, completed and on-going projects, as well as, WSS projects to be financed from European Union sources via the MLPS project.

The functionality of the Commission will be ensured by Centre RDA with support from MLPS project, implemented by GIZ.

As part of its work, WSS RSC will debate draft decisions elaborating recommendations on them, which will be further, presented at Centre RDC meetings. The Commission will have the task to examine and approve regional development priorities in the WSS sector, promote regional projects among donors and investors, examine with specialised independent expert support the project pipeline, various surveys, analysis and recommendations for the formation of a regional vision on the development of the given sector.
