No more mountains of waste at the borders of localities of the Republic of Moldova. In villages of Soldanesti rayon, waste will be collected separately. Trucks pass twice the storage platform and place residues in a specially designed landfill. The project was conducted by the Centre Regional Development Agency, using Government money. Elena and Gheorghe Lisnic have their own rules for household waste collection. They have no idea what would serve the waste storage platform installed near their home.

Parcani village is one of the 27 localities in Soldanesti and Rezina where the modern waste collection service has been launched.

People are encouraged to bring waste collected separately, to throw paper, bottles and plastic or metal objects. The platform has no place for livestock or agricultural waste. They must be stored at home, and then used as fertilizer in the garden.

The project was completed in 4 years.

Iurie Leanca, the Prime Minister of the Republic of Moldova: ‘It is an element of modernization, an event that brings Europe at home. It will be a cleaner environment and a waste-free environment means a healthier environment’.

Ulrike Maria Knotz, Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to the Republic of Moldova: ‘We hope that this project will not only contribute to waste management, but also to regional cooperation’.For this service, residents pay about 10 lei and businesses – 150. The money goes to the budget of the company which deals with waste management.

Accumulated waste are pressed and held in a temporary storage. There will be created a waste management center by the end of next year.
