North Regional Development Agency (North RDA) in partnership with the German Development Cooperation through GIZ held on Friday, 14 August 2015, an information session on the implementation of measures to modernize water supply and sanitation local public service in Riscani rayon.

The meeting aimed to familiarize the mayors of the first term from Riscani rayon with activities carried out, but also to be carried out under the pilot project ‘Improving water supply and sanitation (WSS) services in Riscani rayon’.

The meeting was attended by the Deputy Minister of Regional Development and Construction Ion Stratulat; GIZ Country director, Philipp Johannsen; Director of North Regional Development Agency, Ion Bodrug; project manager, and representatives of local public administration of level I and II included in Prut Cluster, which includes 15 administrative-territorial units, 28 localities from Riscani rayon.

The participants in the meeting discussed on the implementation of measures to modernize WSS local public services for Riscani rayon. North RDA representatives, GIZ advisors and the President of Local Steering Committee of the project have made a comprehensive presentation of the project, specifying the results and progress of the project from 2010 to present. The attention of mayors was stressed on the duties and competences of local public authorities in the process of service’s regionalization. However, recently invested mayors had the opportunity to receive first-hand answers to various questions relating to regional development.

Deputy Minister, Ion Stratulat referred to the importance of effective collaboration between local public authorities, for the provision of quality local public services to citizens.

‘The development of the feasibility study, technical documentation and physical investment in WSS for Riscani rayon was possible with the support of development partners. Localities from Prut Cluster and the whole rayon will benefit from investments. I regret that this meeting is not attended by all mayors for whom in fact, these investments are made from German Government’s sources’, said the Director of North RDA.

Since 2011, within the pilot project ‘Improving water supply and sanitation services in Riscani rayon’ were constructed 7.5 km of water pipe and 3.2 km of sewerage network in the village of Duruitoarea Veche, it was renovated the headquarters of Apa-Canal Costesti. Also, specialized vehicles were purchased: pickup, sewage truck trailer, backhoe and other equipment necessary for the proper functioning of the service.

The pilot project is supported by the German Government and conducted by North RDA. The German Government has given financial and technical support through the project ‘Modernization of local public services in the Republic of Moldova’ implemented by GIZ and financially supported by the German Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida), the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Romania and the European Union.
