On 23 May, members of Environment and Regional Development Commission of the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova made a visit to ATU Gagauzia Regional Development Agency to monitor the implementation of the State policy in the field of regional development and environment.

The purpose of the visit was to identify the issues related to regional development on regional level and to optimize efforts on all levels to support a fair and balanced development in the whole Republic of Moldova. 

The visit of the Parliament delegation began with the Industrial Park (free economic zone ‘Valcanes’, Comrat subzone). The development project for the Industrial Park is being implemented by the Regional Development Agency since March 2018, financed from National Fund for Regional Development Fund sources and allocations from ATU Gagauzia budget. The volume of funding for the first phase is MDL 27. 206, 711.

Valerii Ianioglo, director of the Agency and Nicolai Mavrodii, head of ATU Gagauzia RDA project management division, informed the members of the Parliament on the water supply and sewage, power supply works executed as a result of project implementation in line with interests of ‘Fujikura’, the first resident of the Industrial park.

Further, the delegation visited the ATU Gagauzia RDA head office and discussed with RDA staff the achievements and development perspectives in priority sectors of regional development.  Valerii Ianioglo, director of the Agency briefed the members of the Parliament on the stages of the Agency formation, specifics of its activity and most important results achieved in the field of regional development in the ATU Gagauzia during 2016-2018.

Nicolai Mavrodii, head of ATU Gagauzia RDA project management division presented the information on projects the Agency is implementing in 2018, with funding from National Fund for Regional Development Fund. In the current year, around MDL 14 million were allocated for 4 regional development project implementation in ATU Gagauzia. Moreover, Valerii Ianioglo mentioned that the Agency is carrying out projects with external funds. In this way were attracted funds from a co-investor (SARD programme) to purchase a garbage truck and a bulldozer for the project ‘Optimization of solid waste management system in Vulcanesti rayon’.

Valerii Ianioglo told the members of the Parliament about the priorities of ATU Gagauzia Development Region in the context of achieving National Strategy for Regional Development objectives. At the same time, the delegation got acquainted with the issues the Agency faces in implementing projects. The focus was set on priorities which have to be further developed.   

The visit of Environment and Regional Development Parliamentary Commission to ATU Gagauzia took place with the support of the ‘Modernization of Local Public Services in the Republic of Moldova’ (MLPS) project, implemented by the German Development Cooperation through GIZ.
