The Regional Working Groups created under the ‘Modernization of Local Public Services in Moldova’ project managed by the German Development Cooperation through GIZ and financed by the European Union, have met on 24, 25 and 26 March in working sessions held at the head office of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Soroca, as well as of the Regional Development Agency (RDA) in Cimişlia and in Ialoveni, respectively, in order to present and assess the progress of activities carried out in the first quarter of this year. The working sessions, however, have also served to set and discuss priorities for the next quarter.

The sessions dealt with discussing issues concerning the activities carried out in the first quarter of 2015, while also clarifying the project’s main characteristics. Especially mentioned along these lines was the ‘Green Ventures 2015’ International Partnership Forum for Energy and Environmental Technologies, held during 27-30 January in Leipzig, Germany, which was joined by four companies from the private sector and by several representatives of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCI), as well as of the Energy Efficiency Agency (AEE) and the German Development Cooperation through GIZ. The event was aimed at sharing the best practices in the field and at holding B2B meetings.

It was also mentioned the seminar on ‘Public Procurement Procedures’, organized by GIZ at the head office of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry, which gathered over 20 participants, including representatives from the Ministry of Regional Development and Construction, the Regional Development Agency and, implicitly, the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Republic of Moldova. The seminar was conducted by public procurement expert Ecaterina Grib, who underlined the importance of enhancing economic agents’ knowledge of public procurement and of laws and regulations in this field, given the constant legislative changes taking place.

As previously mentioned, the Regional Working Groups sessions have also served to present the agenda for next quarter’s activities, which includes organizing a training course on Public Procurement for private sector representatives, planned to be held in 9 regions of the Republic throughout the month of April, according to a pre-set schedule. Three regional roundtables on energy efficiency are also expected to be organized.

It is recalled that Regional Working Groups meetings are held quarterly, while the project’s overall objective is to strengthen the capacities of small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) involved in Moldova’s North, Centre and South development regions, through the work of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry, in direct collaboration with ODIMM and the RDA, so as to allow them to participate in public tendering processes carried out by the RDA for infrastructure projects in the field of water supply and sanitation, solid waste management, energy efficiency in public buildings, as well as regional and local roads.
