The Sustainable Energy Week 2016, held with support of the European Union, the Energy Efficiency Fund (EEF) signed today grant agreements for rehabilitation of public lighting systems worth 15 million MDL with nine localities in the country.
13 projects were approved in the first half of this year totalling about 28 million MDL, of which the EEF will fund about 21 million MDL. The approved projects will contribute to 1.25 MWh of energy savings and a reduction of CO2 emissions by 530 tons annually.
The Deputy Minister of Economy, Valeriu Triboi, said that “the main objective of today’s event is to increase the quality of life by implementing a modernized energetically and economically efficient public lighting system that will have significant beneficial effects in the medium and long term on residents by improving social and economic conditions in communities”.
The mayor of Hincesti town, one of the localities that benefited from this grant, Alexandru Botnari, said that “due to this project, we will pay the same money for electricity, but we will have more lighted streets”.
The call for project proposals for the modernization of public lighting systems was launched in June 2014, at the initial phase the local authorities filed to the EEF letters of request. At the next phase, Detailed Project Descriptions were submitted, on which basis grant applications were evaluated and approved. The beneficiary localities will have to provide an own financial contribution amounting to 25% of the investments.
The Board of the Fund approved the requests submitted by the mayor’s offices of Nisporeni, Calarasi, Ialoveni, Hincesti towns and Razeni (Ialoveni Rayon), Oliscani and Sestaci (Soldanesti), Speia (Anenii Noi), Frumusica and Chioselia Mare (Cahul), Corlateni (Riscani), Carabetovca (Basarabeasca) villages and Crasnoarmeiscoe commune from Hincesti Rayon.
