On 18 May, a workshop for the representatives of Civil Society Organisations (CSO) took place on their role and mission in the process of public procurement and contract management under projects financed by the European Union (EU).

The event was organised at IDIS (Institute for Development and Social Initiatives) ‘Viitorul’, in the context of the ‘Modernization of Local Public Services in the Republic of Moldova’ (MLPS) Project implemented by the German Development Cooperation through GIZ.

At the workshop the responsibilities of the CSOs and the contract management process in the projects financed by EU via GIZ/MLPS were discussed.

Petru Veverita, GIZ/MLPS Senior National Advisor: ‘Here we speak about the involvement of civil society with a wider support in the activities implemented under MLPS projects. We take into consideration several components: support in local planning, intermunicipal cooperation, investment measures, visibility and communication aspects and many others. Today, we will speak about how and what kind of assistance and support should CSOs provide in relation to public procurement for the implementation of 18 EU financed projects’.

Liubomir Chiriac, Vice-director, IDIS Viitorul: ‘This is a workshop where we discuss the topic of public procurement, a rather important subject on a national level… It is, also, a possibility to come to find a common line with regard to the messages we will deliver on local level, for those in the regions to understand very clearly the subject and what is needed in this respect’.
