Moldova could receive from the European Union about EUR 175 million for the development of regional infrastructure, increasing energy efficiency, and waste processing. For now, most of such projects are financed by the National Fund for Regional Development. Its annual budget exceeds EUR 10 million. However, Deputy Prime Minister, Valeriu Lazar said that Regional Development Agencies are prepared to attract more European funds.

Projects related to the construction and rehabilitation of roads, and sewerage systems and water supply are priorities for Moldova.

‘Investments in economic priority offer a major impact on the change of regional disaparities. For example, supporting industrial parks, free economic zones can open new job opportunities ‘ said the director of Regional Development Agency North, Ion Bodrug .

Currently in our country are implemented 41 regional development projects. 32 of them are financed by the National Fund.

‘Unfortunately, when it comes to the National Fund for Regional Development we mention a percentage from the national budget. It is very little but it depends on our projects. Then we will be able to assimilate sources from our external donors as well’ said the Minister of Regional Development, Marcel Raducan.

Other 9 projects are completed with the support of the German Development Cooperation through GIZ, which has given us this year about EUR 5 million.

‘We finance various projects related to the environment, small and medium-sized enterprises, and infrastructure, ie water supply, waste processing. We intend to continue our work‘ said the Deputy Head of Mission of the Federal Republic of Germany to the Republic of Moldova, Thomas Weithoner.

Regional Development Agencies Center, North and South began their work in 2009.
