Prime Minister Iurie Leanca found an oasis of Europeanism and services of a high quality for the people, modern infrastructure and attitude at the Orhei Hospital “St. Pantelimon”, which during the last three years received funds for increasing energy efficiency through the agency of KfW and the German Development Cooperation through GIZ.

According to the Government’s press service, Iurie Leanca visited the medical institution in Orhei accompanied by German Minister of Economic Cooperation and Development Gerd Müller. “During several years, the Germans focused on several key areas for Moldova’s development: infrastructure, water and sewerage, which mean health, and surely on medical services of a high quality,” said Iurie Leanca.

Gerd Müller said he was impressed by what he saw. “The people who suffer have only one wish – to get well. Therefore, we must have a good health protection system and qualified specialists. What I saw here is a model institution,” said the official.

The pilot project “Increasing the energy efficiency of the Orhei District Hospital” was implemented by the Centru Regional Development Agency between November 2012 and December 2013. Works are now performed to re-plan the perinatal section that was earlier renovated and insulated. 60% of the works in this block were financed by Germany through the Centru Regional Development Agency.

The hospital in Orhei has a capacity of 410 places and is one of the largest hospitals in Moldova. It serves patients also from the neighboring districts.
