With German Government support the Boiler Plant was renovated and a solar panel system for preparation of hot water was installed at Calarasi Rayon Hospital

On 1 March 2018, in Calarasi the official inauguration of the Boiler Plant and solar panel system for preparation of hot water at Calarasi Rayon Hospital took place. The investment measures were financially supported by the German Government via the ‘Modernization of Local Public Services in the Republic of Moldova’ (MLPS) project, implemented by the German Development Cooperation through GIZ.

The reconstruction works for the Boiler Plant and installation of the solar panel system for preparation of hot water were carried out in August – December 2017, and the total cost of the investment measures is MDL 8,37 million.

The inauguration was attended by the representatives of the Government of the Republic of Moldova, accredited diplomatic missions, local public administration, employees of Calarasi Rayon Hospital, journalists and inhabitants of the town.

E.S. Julia Monar, German Ambassador to the Republic of Moldova: ‘I am glad that today we can put into operation this new project implemented by the German Development Cooperation through GIZ. I want to express my sincere thanks to the Calarasi Rayon Council, which provided administrative support. The success of this kind of projects is only guaranteed when all involved parties do their share and namely:  Centre Regional Development Agency, Ministry of Agriculture, Regional Development and Environment and of course the local public administration from Calarasi. I wish that you for many years benefit from the heat of this facility and the money saved’.

Manfred Horr, GIZ Germany, Director of the Department for Germany and Europe: ‘German Development Cooperation through GIZ provides support to the Government of the Republic of Moldova in the implementation of several reforms and initiatives relating to economy, attracting of investments, health sectors and also projects dealing with local public administration. All these projects are implemented together with national partners, as well as, international. I am very glad that by implementing this project we could contribute to the improvement of standards in this field and most importantly to the improvement of living conditions of the inhabitants of Calarasi rayon'.

Liviu Volconovici, Minister of Agriculture, Regional Development and Environment: ‘I would like to thank the management of the rayon, the Centre Regional Development Agency and especially GIZ and German Government for their involvement in this project by providing MDL 8 million and putting in place this Boiler Plant, 3 boilers and a solar panel system. It is an approach which is implemented in the whole world and the use of solar energy for the Republic of Moldova is very important. And we further need this kind of projects. Thank you once again for the support provided’.

The renovation of the Boiler Plant will provide heating to the entire Calarasi Rayon Hospital and the installation of the solar panel system will provide hot water for all needs of the hospital. Both measures will lead to the reduction of carbon dioxide emissions (CO2) by up to 40%.

Annually, around 9000 patients are beneficiaries of the services provided by the Calarasi Rayon Hospital.
