With German Government support, Ungheni municipality will enjoy quality water supply, sanitation and solid waste management services  
On 11 December 2017, in the municipality of Ugheni the official handing of two trucks to the municipal enterprises ‘Apa-Canal’ Ungheni and ‘AVE’ Ungheni took place. The trucks were granted to the town hall of Ungheni by the German Development Cooperation through GIZ under the ‘Modernization of Local Public Services in the Republic of Moldova’ (MLPS) project and will have the purpose of collecting solid waste and maintaining water supply and sanitation networks. The event was attended by the representatives of local public administrations level I and II; Ministry of Agriculture, Regional Development and Environment (MARDE); Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to the Republic of Moldova; Centre Regional Development Agency (RDA); management of MLPS project, as well as, citizens of Ungheni town.

Centre Regional Development Agency and German Development Cooperation through GIZ, with the support of the EU, signed the Financing Agreement with a view to ensuring increased access of citizens to improved water supply, sanitation and energy efficiency services  
Today, 8 December, Centre Regional Development Agency (RDA) and German Development Cooperation through GIZ signed the Financing Agreement on the development of tender documentation for construction works of selected projects in the field of water supply and sanitation and energy efficiency in Centre Region. It will be implemented by Centre RDA with the support of GIZ in the frame of ‘Modernisation of Local Public Services in the Republic of Moldova’ (MLPS) project and financed by the European Union.

Public consultations for Integrated Waste Management system for Waste Management Zone (WMZ) no. 8  
On 1-2 December, in the North Development Region of the country were organised public consultations on the Environmental Impact Assessment Documentation (EIAD) for the Integrated Waste Management System for Waste Management Zone (WMZ) no. 8. The event was attended by representatives of Local Public Administration level I and II from Edinet, Briceni, Ocnita and Donduseni rayons; representatives of the Ministry of Agriculture, Regional Development and Environment (MARDE) and North Regional Development Agency (RDA); as well as advisors of the ‘Modernisation of Local Public Services in the Republic of Moldova’ project, implemented by the German Development Cooperation through GIZ.

More than 20.000 inhabitants from the South Development Region will have access to water supply and sewage services in the near future
Today, at the South Regional Development Agency (RDA) the works contract for works to be carried out under the ‘Construction of the main water pipeline Leova-Iargara’ project was signed. The total value of the contract is around EUR 3 million or over MDL 60 million, of which EUR 2.4 million are provided by the Government of the Federal Republic of Germany via the German Development Cooperation through GIZ and EUR 600.000 are allocated from the National Regional Development Fund (NRDF) and by Leova Rayon Council. It is to be noted, that the ‘Construction of the main water pipeline Leova-Iargara’ project is a component part of the ‘Modernization of Water Supply (WS) Local Public Services in Leova Rayon’ project.

The first meeting of the regional sector commission in the field of Solid Waste Management took place
The first meeting of the Regional Sector Commission in the field of Solid Waste Management (SWM RSC) from Centre Development Region took place at the Centre Regional Development Agency (RDA). The event was attended by representatives from the Ministry of Agriculture, Regional Development and Environment (MARDE), ‘Modernisation of Local Public Services in the Republic of Moldova’ project implemented by German Development Cooperation through GIZ, as well as from Centre RDA. Members of the commission became acquainted with the national policy in the field of SWM, the Regional Development Strategy for Centre Region (RDS) 2016-2020 and with the Regional Operational Plan (ROP) for Centre Region in the SWM field and the provisions of the mentioned documents for the given sector. In addition, the members of the Commission were informed on the current situation in the field, completed and on-going projects, as well as projects from ROP.

Members of Parliament from the Environment and Regional Development Commission carried out monitoring visits to the Centre Development Region
Members of Parliament from the Environment and Regional Development Commission and advisors of the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova are monitoring the implementation of state policies in the field of regional development and protection of the environment. In this context, they carried out on Wednesday, 29 November a number of visits in the Centre Development Region. Members of parliamentary delegation expressed, thus, their intention of facilitating the dialogue with regional and local institutions, identifying development related challenges at regional level and optimising the efforts of state institutions at all levels to support fair and balanced development throughout the territory of the Republic of Moldova.

Members of Regional Sector Commission in the field of Water Supply and Sanitation from Centre Development Region meet in the first meeting
Members of Regional Sector Commission in the field of Water Supply and Sanitation (WSS RSC) from the Development Region Centre, created with the support of the German Development Cooperation through GIZ under the ‘Modernisation of Local Public Services in the Republic of Moldova’ (MLPS) project, met on 29 November, in a first meeting at Centre RDA. The event was, also, attended by representatives from the Ministry of Agriculture, Regional Development and Environment (MARDE), GIZ/MLPS and Centre RDA. Members of WSS RSC elected Anatolie Dimitriu as co-chair of the Commission. He is the president of Ialoveni Rayon Council. The co-chair from MARDE is Nadejda Chilaru, Head of Division on water resources integrated management.

Water supply and sanitation service operators from the Republic of Moldova learn from best practices of Romanian colleagues
During 20-25 November, representatives of water supply and sanitation public service operators, management of Moldova Apa Canal Association (AMAC), management and trainers of the Institute of Continuous Training in Water Supply and Sewerage sector for AMAC members from the Technical University from Moldova (ICTWSS) are exchanging best practices with their Romanian counterparts in the field of management of human resources. As a result of working meetings and field visits to the operator SC Raja SA Constanța, Water Company SA Buzau and Regional Operator Apavital S.A. Iasi, the operators will get acquainted with: functional approaches in managing human resources in the context of regionalisation

MLPS project Monitoring Committee meeting for reporting period July- September 2017 took place
On 17 September, members of Monitoring Committee of ‘Modernization of Local Public Services’ (MLPS) project implemented by German Development Cooperation through GIZ met in a working meeting. The goal of the session was to discuss the project activities and progress in the reporting period July - September 2017 and activities planned for October-December period. The event was attended by representatives from Ministry of Agriculture, Regional Development and Environment (MARDE), Regional Development Agencies (North, Centre, South and TAU Gagauzia), development partners and MLPS co-financing partners, as well as, MLPS project advisors.

Current situation in the Solid Waste Management sector discussed at the first RDC North specialist commission meeting
Members of Regional Sector Commission in the field of Solid Waste Management (SWM RSC) from the Development Region North, created with the support of the German Development Cooperation through GIZ under the ‘Modernisation of Local Public Services in the Republic of Moldova’ (MLPS) project, met on 3 November in a first meeting at RDA North. The event was, also, attended by representatives from the Ministry of Agriculture, Regional Development and Environment (MARDE), European Investment Bank, GIZ and RDA North. Members of SWM RSC elected Victor Cimpoieș as co-chair of the Commission. He is the executive director of the Public Association ‘Cutezatorul’ from Falesti, known for his experience in the given field. The co-chair from MARDE is Silvia Nicolaescu, deputy head of Prevention of pollution and waste management Division, approved by the Decision no. 2 from 27 September 2017 of the North Regional Development Council (RDC).
